MASH Labs aimed to create an entirely new interactive experience where fans could:

  1. Mix & Mash Media: Blend audio from one artist with visual media from another into a single piece of content.
  2. Mint Digital Collectibles: Once created, users would mint and store the resulting file as a blockchain-based asset (NFT).

Pain Points:

  • Complex UI/UX: Designing an intuitive workflow so that mixing and minting are simple for non-technical users.
  • Technical Integration: Integrating multiple media types, migrating from a local database to AWS, and enabling seamless blockchain minting.
  • Scalability & Security: Ensuring the application can handle a growing user base and secure transactions.

Discovery & Brainstorming

  1. Conducted in-depth sessions with MASH Labs to understand the “fan-artist” engagement vision and technical requirements.
  2. Identified core user stories, pain points, and unique platform differentiators.


UI/UX Design

  1. Crafted user flows enabling easy upload, mixing, previewing, and minting.
  2. Emphasized a clean, intuitive interface that simplifies a process (mixing files + minting) that can be complex for first-time users.


Technical Architecture

  1. Proposed a robust backend to support real-time media “mashing,” with modular code for easy scalability.
  2. Prioritized a secure blockchain integration for minting and ownership tracking.

Solution Implementation

End-to-End Platform Build

  • Front End (React): Built an intuitive interface where users can upload media, drag-and-drop elements, and preview their mashups in real time.
  • Backend (Node.js & Express): Designed RESTful APIs to handle user authentication, file management, and integration with the blockchain.
  • Database (MongoDB): Structured a flexible schema to store user info, mash-up references, and minted asset metadata.

 

Media Mixing & Mashing Functionality

  • Developed an in-app editor that layers audio and video content, with instant preview capabilities.
  • Implemented a “finalize” step that locks in the mash-up for NFT minting.

 

Blockchain Integration

  • Created Solidity smart contracts to tokenize each unique mash-up on a compatible blockchain (e.g., Ethereum or other EVM chain).
  • Implemented a one-click “Mint” button that interacts with the blockchain to generate NFTs.

 

Cloud Migration & Storage

  • Migrated from local database hosting to AWS for improved reliability and performance.
  • Leveraged AWS S3 for large media file storage, ensuring secure, scalable handling of user uploads.
  • Integrated Piñata for IPFS-based file pinning, guaranteeing decentralized and tamper-proof storage for NFT media.

 

Security & Scalability

  • Deployed robust authentication and role-based access controls.
  • Set up CI/CD pipelines on AWS for continuous deployment and easy scaling as user demand grows.
